چکیده

John Woods defined the epistemic bubble as the inescapable state of first-person human rationality. In this paper we will propose, at a seminal level, how the fertility of such approach can be expanded beyond the logical-epistemic dimension: the emotional sphere as well seems to be deeply affected by selfimmunization dynamics so that the cognitive bubble – rather than just epistemic – could define a characteristic framework of human cognition.

Negative Introspection Is Mysterious

The paper provides a short argument that negative introspection cannot be algorithmic. This result with respect to a principle of belief fits to what we know about provability principles. Autoepistemic reasoning is reasoning the inferences of which depend on representing one’s own state of belief. A cognitive agent engaged in autoepistemic reasoning draws conclusion from introspective beliefs. ...

Avoiding Logical Omniscience by Default - An Investigation into Autoepistemic Logic (Levesque, 1990)

In cognitive science epistemic logic is often used to describe reasoning with knowledge. Standard systems of epistemic logic suffer from the fact that they presuppose perfect and flawless reasoning (i.e. logical omniscience). Deviation from this ideal (e.g. logical ignorance) cannot be described by standard epistemic systems adequately. The majority of approaches to this problem weakens the log...

Logic in the Lab

As humans, we live in a remarkably complex social environment. One cognitive tool which helps us manage all this complexity is our theory of mind, the ability to reason about the mental states of others. By deducing what other people want, feel and think, we can understand their actions, predict how our actions will influence them, and decide how we should behave to be successful. Theory of min...
